Residents in Ranelagh and Rathmines will be relieved to hear that the proposed closure of a road linking the two Dublin villages to allow upgrade to the Luas Green Line has been dropped.

The National Transport Authority has redrawn plans for the metro which will run from Swords to Sandyford serving Dublin Airport.

The NTA has proposed two options, one is a rail bridge over the road and the other the borrowing of a “tunnel” which allows the train to go underground.

It was planned to close the through road from Dunville Avenue to Beechwood Road
