€1,000 cash prize for the winner!
The Dalkey Creates Festival is calling on writers from across the country to enter its annual Short Story Competition, which is supported by Bank of Ireland.
The competition will be judged by international best-selling author Monica McInerney, with a cash prize of €1,000 up for grabs. Additionally, the winning story will be published in the January/February 2019 issue of Books Ireland Magazine.
The winner will be announced at the Open Mic Live! event taking place as part of the Dalkey Creates festival on the evening of Thursday 11th October in Finnegans Pub in Dalkey. Last year’s winner was Martin McSweeney from Cork who wrote ‘The Long Goodbye.’
The closing date for submissions is midnight, Friday 24th August 2018.
As part of the Dalkey Creates Writing Festival, a series of events will take place in the Dalkey area between the 11th and the 13th of October 2018, which aim to inspire people to start writing or improve their craft. In addition to sponsoring the Short Story Completion, Bank of Ireland will team up with the Dalkey Creates Festival for the ‘Wheelbarrow Gardens’ initiative this year, which will see dozens of wheelbarrows filled with flowers and edible plants grown by children from several local primary schools and put on display as part of the festival.
